The AMERICAN TRUCK HISTORICAL SOCIETY (ATHS) is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1971, “dedicated to the collection and preservation of the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers”.  There is only one requirement for ATHS membership and that is a genuine interest in the history of trucks and the trucking industry. The members of the Northwest Chapter are helping preserve the legacy of the trucking industry, the men and machines.

The Northwest Chapter was chartered in June, 1983 – the 11th ATHS Chapter chartered.  Robert W. (Bob) Brown, known by many in the northwest as “Mr. Mack” (owner of Brown Truck & Equipment of Federal Way, WA and member of ATHS since 1980) was the “sparkplug” in starting the Northwest Chapter.  Bob attended the 1983 National Convention & Antique Truck Show in Sacramento, CA.  Soon after his return home, he gathered together (on June 18, 1983), the ATHS members living in Washington and British Columbia that had attended the Convention plus several others he knew that had old trucks (thirty four (34) in all, plus several spouses), for a meeting at the Executive Inn in Fife, WA.  That was the beginning of the Northwest Chapter!!!

At first, the Northwest Chapter covered all of Washington and Southwest British Columbia.  Since then four (4) chapters have been formed in Eastern Washington, one (1) north of Seattle covering Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island & San Juan counties and two (2) in British Columbia.  The Northwest Chapter grew and flourished under Bob’s leadership as president for 12 years.  Roy Friis took up the reigns of leadership and brought the chapter where it is today with over 200 members in the Northwest Chapter.

Northwest Chapter dues are $20 per calendar year.  National ATHS membership is required to become a Chapter member.  Northwest Chapter members receive four (4) newsletters per year to keep them informed of Chapter activities and meeting dates and locations. To join, fill out the new member application and mail it to the address on the form.

The American Truck Historical Society is a family oriented organization.  Family, friends and guests are always welcome at any function.
